April 1997 Update!

This is me as a one month survivor, resting, relaxing and recovering!

April 17, 1997
One month ago, I became a survivor. It seems like eons ago! The day after my last treatment, I stepped out of my front door and found flowers sprouting everywhere. It seemed like the world was starting over just for me. I could not have picked a better time to become a survivor!

I visited Dr. Cooney today for a thorough physical check up, and I mean thorough! I got the results back from last week's cat scan, which came back clean. Yay! My blood counts are still low from the last bit of radiation, but they will return to a decent level in a month or so. My blood did show that I am high in iron, due to my taking iron supplements in the hopes of building my hemoglobin. So now I am not allowed to take vitamins with iron, oh well. The most bizarre finding so far was that I shrunk half an inch in height. Maybe the chemo shaved a few outer layers of cells off my bones. Luckily, I know how to stand tall!

I finished my Children's Book Writing Workshop, and the result is that I have written one Blort story, two non-Blort stories, and I have revised an old non-Blort story. I am also putting together a proposal to publish my visualizations as a sort of colorful bedside book for anybody going through chemo or radiation. I am very focused and everything I want to do is quite clear for me now! Just wait!
