Chemo Can't Knock Me Down

(Continued)

3/29/96
Today I was all set to have a nice visit with my friend Veronica, when I got a call from my doctor telling me I needed to go have a blood culture redrawn. It seems that the last one I had came back positive for some kind of staph infection. So Veronica and I went to the hospital for a quick blood drawing, one test from my chemo port and one from my arm. The hospital really has a thing for blood, they take as much as they can any chance they get. Getting blood from my port took minutes, but the veins in my arms simply would not obey. The first nurse stuck me twice, and got no blood, the second nurse stuck me twice, and still no blood. Finally, they put hot wet rags on my arm, then a third nurse joined in on my vein finding party, and she struck blood on the first try. Only an hour had gone by!!! It will be 24 to 48 hours before the results come back, and if they are positive, then I get to go back to the hospital for a nice antibiotic drip.

Somebody is accessing my Blortland site right now, and they are taking the Island of Sevens Tour. Now they are looking at the tour information, which is exactly what I want them to do! I am going to offer a prize to whoever makes it through the whole thing, for it is many layered, full of graphics, and one must read a fair amount of text. It is really an interactive adventure fantasy science fiction mystery. Wow, this is exciting, the same person just went to look at the Island of Sevens Info, then went to where the mystery first unfolds, and now he/she is taking the Island of Sevens tour!

Back to Veronica, well, she stayed and shaved my head with a straight razor. My last head shaving was with an electric razor, and what a difference a nice sharp straight edge makes! My head feels like velvet, and it looks clean as an egg. When you have no hair, suddenly ears and eyebrows become very noticeable. I should be thankful I was never dropped on my head, or did anything in my past to mar my scalp. If I didn't have to stick around for chemo, I would try to get a job as an extra on a Star Trek type of show. Actually, I would make a great actress right now, for I can cry or laugh in an instant!

My appetite is still down, and my energy level is low, so I must now force myself to eat ice cream and watch TV. Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia sounds good! Then tonight Brittany and I are having her favorite chicken and rice dinner while we watch Tom and Jerry. It should be fun!
